Rajendra Sanjel Chhetri (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) is a Nepali orthopaedic surgeon, recognized for his contributions to orthopaedic surgery and leadership in medical associations in Nepal. [1][2] He previously served as the Medical Superintendent at the Lumbini Provincial Hospital, and is the current Medical Director of Tinau International Hospital in Butwal.[3] Chhetri is also the founding chairperson of the Lumbini Chapter of the Nepal Orthopaedic Association, and has authored several peer-reviewed studies on musculoskeletal disorders, paediatric fractures, and surgical management of complex orthopaedic cases.[4][5][6]

Career

In June 2014, Chhetri led Nepal’s first artificial joint (total hip) replacement performed outside the Kathmandu Valley, at Lumbini Zonal Hospital.[7]

In August 2017, he was appointed Medical Superintendent of the hospital by a Cabinet decision, overseeing daily administration, staff management, and the expansion of clinical services.[8][9] He also introduced programmes to improve patient access, including mental health services and free care for victims of gender-based violence.[2]

In September 2021, Chhetri was elected the first chairperson of the newly established Lumbini Chapter of the Nepal Orthopaedic Association (NOA), aimed at promoting collaboration, professional development, and surgical innovation among orthopaedic surgeons in the province.[10][11] He has since chaired medical programmes and conferences under the chapter’s banner, including ORTHOCON 2023, an annual conference attended by specialists from Nepal, India, Japan, China, and Sri Lanka.[12]

Chhetri currently serves as Medical Director at Tinau International Hospital in Butwal, where he oversees hospital operations and continues clinical practice.[13] He has also been listed among committee members of the (NOA), as well as, the lifetime member of Nepal Medical Association (NMA), Nepal Red Cross Society, and Society for Democratic Thinking.[14][15]
