Rashid al-Khayyun is an Iraqi researcher and writer interested in issues of ancient Arab thought.[1] Rashid writes in the Emirati newspaper Al-Ittihad,[2] publishing many books on heritage and thought. Also, he received the King Abdulaziz Book Award in 2017 for his book (The Impact of Blacks in Islamic Civilization).[3]

His biography[edit]

Rashid was born in Al-Jabayish in the Dhi Qar Governorate in southern Iraq to the Khayun family, specifically from Bani Asad.[4] He graduated from the Teachers Institute in Baghdad. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Aden in 1984 in South Yemen. He obtained a doctorate in Sofia in Islamic philosophy in 1991. He practiced education in Baghdad primary schools from 1975-to 1978 when UNESCO published a report saying that education in Iraq was comparable to education in the Scandinavian countries. He studied in Yemeni universities from 1979-to 1988, which witnessed the departure of more than 23 thousand researchers, doctors, and engineers out of Iraq due to the first Gulf War fought by Iraq led by Saddam Hussein and Iran by Khomeini; Rashid is also a weekly writer in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat and other newspapers, most notably the Emirati newspaper alttihad.

Rashid al-Khayyun now[edit]

He lives in London and has a sharp patriotic sense. In his interviews, he calls for the restoration of Iraqi national cohesion. Rashid strongly criticizes the political system in the era of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. He considers it a dark period that exterminated the Kurds, oppressed the Shiites, and did not do justice to the Sunnis themselves. He demands the competent authorities restore the spirit of consideration to the Iraqi self by introducing the ancient Iraqi identity represented by the Sumerian, Akkadian, and Babylonian civilizations.

Articles[edit]

He writes weekly in the UAE newspaper Al-Ittihad.
