Raymond S. Major is an economist and researcher-turned software executive. A former senior vice president for research company The Nielsen Company and economist for the San Diego Regional Association of Governments,[1] Major specializes in business intelligence and software technology trends. He is currently Chief Strategist for San Diego-based software developer Halo Business Intelligence. Major is a frequent lecturer and blogger on a wide array of Business Intelligence topics.

Early life and education[edit]

Major was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 17, 1961. He is the son of Hungarian immigrants Gyorgyi Mocsary and Joseph Major, who fled Hungary during the 1956 revolution. At age 4, his family moved to San Diego, California. Major earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1979. He attended San Diego State University, where he majored in economics. He was awarded a BA degree in economics in 1984, and a MA degree in economics in 1989.

Early career[edit]

While working on his graduate degree, Major worked as a clinical data analyst at Immunetech Pharmaceuticals analyzing clinical trial data. From 1986 to 1994 he worked as a research analyst and an economist at the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), where he worked on comprehensive economic prosperity plan for the San Diego region. In 1994 he joined Business Geometrics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Equifax National Decision Systems, where he led product design and development for this startup division. He was promoted to vice president of product development in 1996 for Equifax National Decision Systems when Business Geometrics was merged into the parent company. From 1998 to 2010, Major held a series of senior management positions at Claritas/Nielsen, including SVP of product strategy, SVP product management, chief marketing officer, chief customer advocate and GM of Integras.

Halo Business Intelligence[edit]

Major joined iQ4Bis (later re-branded Halo Business Intelligence) to run the company, which delivers web-based SaaS or on-premises business analytic and predictive modeling software platform. For companies that rely on their data, Halo BI delivers a data warehousing tool that simplifies data integration, quality and mobility by automating code development and maintenance. Halo BI reduces project time, standardizes data processes and automates documentation. Halo BI's visualization tool frees business users to do their own data discovery and reporting. It is a Microsoft Gold Certified Managed Partner.[2] It won a Top Innovations Award in 2014.[3]
