"Remember" is the upcoming ninth episode and series finale of the Australian adult animated series The Amazing Digital Circus. Written and directed by Gooseworx, the episode follows the main characters as they grapple with the supposed death of their AI ringmaster Caine, and the abstraction of one of their members, Jax.

The episode premiered in theatres, combined with the series' penultimate episode as The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, on 4 June 2026, before being released on YouTube and Netflix on 19 June 2026. The theatrical release grossed $38.2 million at the box office, and the episode received positive reception from critics.

Plot

After presumedly deleting Caine by accident, Kinger reveals to the other members that they are brain-scanned duplicates of their real-world counterparts, making them unable to leave the circus. This revelation causes them to despair over their existence. Pomni helps Kinger rebuild the damaged circus and inspires Ragatha, Zooble, and Gangle to join in. Jax isolates himself from the group and eventually succumbs to hopelessness, causing him to abstract.

Pomni enters his abstracted form and finds herself in a room containing multiple doors bearing Jax's face. Behind each door is a scenario depicting his relationships with Pomni, Ragatha, Zooble, and Gangle through a series of increasingly surreal scenarios. The final door leads to a room occupied by four different versions of Jax, one of whom gives Pomni a key that grants access to the real Jax. As Pomni confronts him, she experiences a series of flashbacks from Jax's point of view, revealing aspects of his past with another abstracted member named Ribbit, whom he ignored in embarrassment and shame after sharing details of his personal life with, leading to her eventual abstraction. Pomni and Jax embrace, and Jax's body becomes engulfed in light after his abstracted form detonates some flash grenades. Pomni is rescued by the remaining circus members, and Jax's abstracted form is subsequently contained and pacified within a makeshift tent.

Meanwhile, Caine is trapped within the void after being deleted. While wandering through it, he reflects on his role in the circus and the consequences of his actions. Discovering a doorway that grants him access to the internet, Caine learns more about the outside world and the lives of the other members. Afterwards, he releases the AI he absorbed, which was causing him to malfunction. He subsequently returns to the reconstructed circus and apologises to the others by presenting glimpses of their real-world counterparts via their social media accounts. Following these events, Caine relinquishes control of the circus and grants the others greater freedom and autonomy, eventually joining the group as an equal. Meanwhile, the real-world counterparts of the members wait at a bus stop, unaware of each other, before boarding the same bus.

Release

"Remember" is scheduled to release on YouTube and Netflix on 19 June 2026,[1][2] preceded by a theatrical premiere, combining it with episode eight as The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, that released on 4 June.[3][4]

When first announced on 10 April 2026, The Last Act was billed as a four-day limited theatrical event for screenings across the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Japan.[5][6][7] However, Glitch urged fans of the series outside of these regions to contact their local cinema chains, in order to help expand the range of the release.[2][8] The subsequent intense fan demand led to the release expanding to numerous additional countries.[9][10][11] In multiple countries, including the United States, the initial four-day release window of 4–7 June was extended to two weeks, spanning 4–18 June.[5][12][13] The release was also expanded to include showings on 4DX screens.[14] In the United States, the event was expanded from an initial 900 theatres to 2,221.[5][15] In Europe, The Last Act received screenings in over 3,000 theatres across 38 countries.[16]

In the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Japan, theatrical distribution of The Last Act was handled by Fathom Entertainment.[5] Europe-wide distribution of The Last Act was picked up by Piece of Magic Entertainment.[10][17] In Asia, Glitch partnered with the local distributor Encore Films.[18][19] Despite initial doubts on distribution in South Africa,[20] screenings in that country were eventually confirmed, with the Gravel Road Distribution Group as the distributor.[21][22]

The idea for giving the series finale a theatrical release came from Glitch Productions CEO Kevin Lerdwichagul, who was inspired after seeing how much fans of the series enjoyed meeting up and hanging out with each other at conventions.[9] While many fans of the series were excited for, and gave praise to, the theatrical experience,[2][23] others expressed concern that those unable to see the finale in theatres (due to underprivilege or living in areas beyond the event's coverage) would have to wait until the online release two weeks later, and thus risk being subjected to spoilers.[2][23][24] Responding to the latter group of fans, Lerdwichagul released a statement explaining that Glitch had wanted the gap between the theatrical and online releases to be "just one week or less", but that theatres "were originally asking for a minimum of a month", with the final two-week gap resulting from "a lot of back and forth."[25][26]

Release issues, cancellations, and leak

In April 2026, it was reported that The Last Act would be barred from theatrical release in the Arab world and Middle East due to regional censorship demands.[27] In May, Glitch Productions terminated its contract with South Korean distributor SBM&E, causing screenings of The Last Act in South Korea to be cancelled. In a statement, Glitch explained this action by citing security concerns, specifically that the sending of video files as part of the rating process could risk the series finale being prematurely leaked. Subsequently, SBM&E filed an injunction against Glitch for performance of supply with the Seoul Central District Court.[28][29]

On 20 May, the Brazilian Portuguese dub of The Last Act leaked online ahead of its theatrical premiere, spreading across platforms including X, TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube.[30][31][32] The original leaker is purported to have been paid $1000 for the leak.[33] Series creator Gooseworx responded to the leaks by stating, "Ehhh, who cares?",[24][33] later writing on Bluesky that the project had become "way more trouble than it's worth" and that she "can't keep [her] heart in this thing anymore".[34][35]

Reception

Box office

The Last Act sold $5 million in tickets within days of tickets going on presale on April 10[9] and several theaters reported selling out.[36] According to Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt, Fathom received "more hits on [their] website in one day than [they] had in an entire month".[9] By May 11, the film had surpassed $7.5 million in ticket pre-sales in the United States, setting a new record for a Fathom Entertainment release.[37][13][38]

In the United States, The Last Act grossed $7.86 million in the United States on its opening day, finishing first at the box office,[14][39] and went on to earn an additional $12.7 million over the course of its opening weekend, finishing it in fifth place.[40][41] By the end of its opening weekend, The Last Act grossed $36.6 million globally, including $12.7 million in Europe, $1.2 million in Mexico, and $2.1 million across Australia and New Zealand combined.[42] As of 18 June 2026, The Last Act has grossed $38.2 million at the global box office.[43]

Critical response

Nick Spake praised the theatrical release as a satisfying and emotional conclusion to the series, highlighting its exploration of trauma, found family, and existence. The review singled out the character arcs of both Caine and Jax as well as Michael Kovach's performance for particular acclaim, while criticizing the limited focus given to some supporting characters. He also added that it cannot be watched while skipping previous episodes.[44]

William Bibbiani stated that the theatrical release, and the series as a whole, features "unusually interesting and complex characters". He argued that the finale's strength lies in its emphasis on "collective care", noting that "They abstract when they retreat into their individual anxieties and sadness [...] when they connect with one another, they do develop the strength to go on". Bibbiani further described the screening as more than an event, citing strong audience reactions driven by empathy for characters developed throughout the series. He characterized the work as a "work of art [...] funny and frightening, heartwarming and heartbreaking, confrontational masterwork". He also praised its independent production, arguing that the industry should not turn artists such as Gooseworx into "Caine".[45]
