Ricardo "Ding" Santos (born 8 October 1949) is a politician and retired police officer in Pasay. He was elected as city councilor in Pasay's first district since 2016.

Background[1][edit]

Ricardo "Ding" Santos was born on 8 October 1949 to Francisco Jacinto Santos and Josefina Escobar.

Education[edit]

He finished primary school in Epifanio Delos Santos Elementary School (EDSES) on 1961. He finished secondary school in Far Eastern University on 1965.

He obtained his B.S. Business Administration at Colegio De San Juan Letran on 1970.

He took post-graduate studies such as Police Basic Course and Crowd Control both in Pasay City Police Academy on 1982 and 1983, respectively. He also took Police Officer Course in Integrated National Police on 1984.

Police Department[edit]

He started his police career in Patrol Division on 1972. After a year, he became Assistant Chief in Homicide Section, in which he served until 1985.

In 1991, he became Assistant Chief in Criminal Investigation Division, and also as Close-In Security to the late Mayor Pablo Cuneta until 1993.

He became Chief of Criminal Investigation Division from 1993 until 1996.

He served as Chief of Security to Mayor Pablo Cuneta from 1997 until 1998.

Politics[edit]

He ran as mayor in 1998 with then Representative Jovito Claudio and Vice Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad. He finished third.

Two years later, a recall election was held. He was defeated by then former Vice Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad.

He ran again as mayor on 2001 and 2004 elections respectively, but both lost to Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad.

In 2007, he ran as representative under Lakas–Kampi but lost to then Second District Councilor Jose Antonio Roxas.

He ran again as mayor in 2010 together with then Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad, Vice Mayor Antonino Calixto, former Representative Ma. Consuelo "Connie" Dy, and other three candidates, but finished fourth.

Three years later, he ran as vice mayor under Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, but lost to then Vice Mayor Marlon Pesebre.

In 2016, he ran as councilor in first district underTeam Calixto and he successfully won, finishing fifth. He ran again as councilor in 2019 and 2022 elections successfully.

Personal life[edit]

He was married to Carolina G. Santos and they had four children: Rica-Elah (who ran in 2010 as representative), Richard, Reinhard and Cara.
