Ricky Lee Sanderson (February 25, 1959 – January 30, 1998), is a criminal from North Carolina who was the last person in North Carolina that was executed by lethal gas,[1][2] and was convicted for kidnapping and stabbing and strangling to death 16-year-old Sue Ellen Holliman and then raping her on March 14, 1985.[2][3] He was arrested on January 21, 1986 and sentenced to death, he went to death row at Central Prison,[3] he had not requested to die by lethal injection, so he was executed by lethal gas.[1][2]
