Rightpedia was a neo-Nazi, white supremacist, alt-right electronic encyclopedia which contained extreme anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial and attacks on Jewish people.[2] The website doxed and harassed left-wing politicians and anti-fascists in the style of the far-right Redwatch.[citation needed]
History[edit]
Rightpedia was founded in January 2015 by ex-Metapedia admins,[3] who felt Metapedia wasn't extreme enough in its racism or offensiveness; one of the co-founders of Rightpedia Michael Coombs (posting under the pseudonym Mikemikev) has since claimed: "Metapedia has gone soft to conform to Swedish 'hate speech' laws. Rightpedia is where it's at."[4][non-primary source needed]
Like The Daily Stormer, Rightpedia has had a history of problems finding site hosting. Originally hosted by Orain as "Rightwiki",[5][unreliable source?] in June 2015 there were complaints about libellous articles Michael Coombs was creating on anti-racist and civil rights campaigners, resulting in steward action, removing the defamatory content.[6][non-primary source needed] Orain was later hacked, forcing Rightpedia to find a new host. In September 2015, Rightpedia was rejected hosting by Mireheze a free, non-profit wiki; a steward noted "the wiki seems to be simply supporting neo-Nazism and the ideals of the Nazi party" and declined hosting.[7][non-primary source needed] In October 2015, Rightpedia was briefly hosted by MW Zip's wikis, but it was removed after a complaint was made about "anti-Semitic and potentially libellous content" that violates MW Zip's Acceptable Use Policy.[8][non-primary source needed] Rightpedia then purchased hosting from GoDaddy.[9][unreliable source?]
Rightpedia was taken offine in November 2018 by GoDaddy after multiple takedown requests, alleging the website hosted images of child abuse. Web Archive also removed snapshots of it from their archives, presumably for the same reasons.[10]
Content[edit]
According to the website Hate Speech Watch: "The content [on Rightpedia] is predictably racist and intensely anti-Semitic".[11]
Although Metapedia shared the same white nationalism ideology of Rightpedia, the latter is different in its approach in that whereas Metapedia attempts to present itself as an encyclopedia in tone and content, Rightpedia was more similar to The Daily Stormer in its tone and content. It used alt-right internet memes and terminology, published fake news stories and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, engaged in racist trolling, doxes and smeared left-wing politicians, as well as anti-racist activists (e.g. Nick Lowles).[citation needed]
Rightpedia had articles that criticized Metapedia, Conservapedia, Wikipedia and RationalWiki. Although created by ex-Metapedia admins, Rightpedia's criticism of Metapedia is that it is not racist enough and accused the current administration for being "Zionist" as part of an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory. The current admins from Rightpedia (including Michael Coombs) and Metapedia have debated each other on the white nationalist forum Stormfront, both accusing each other of wrongdoing in a thread that was eventually locked.[12][unreliable source?]
Mikemikev[edit]
In response to Michael Coombs doxing and posting malicious falsehoods about people on Rightpedia, legal complaints have been sent to Google to deindex articles for defamation.[13][non-primary source needed] Michael Coombs (who posts online as Mikemikev) has been banned on RationalWiki and Wikipedia on hundreds of sockpuppets.[14][non-primary source needed] He has since created smear articles about the admins from these wikis who banned him, including doxing their personal home addresses and family members. The SPLC in their article on Rightpedia note: "One of the white nationalists [Mikemikev] who co-founded Rightpedia, a far-right free encyclopedia that split from Metapedia, created more than 140 accounts in the past 10 years."[15]
