Company Overview[edit]

Rock Bottom Golf is one of the largest golf retail company in the world. The public company is based in Rochester, New York, in Upstate New York, with 50 employees currently employed worldwide.

They primarily sell golf equipment via their online retail portal via BigCommerce[6] along with eBay and Amazon. They have one retail location at Chili Country Club in Scottsville, New York, as well as administration offices in Rochester, New York, and Suffolk, Virginia. They fulfill orders via their warehouse in Suffolk, Virginia.

History[edit]

Thomas (Tom) Rath[7] began his retail relationship with golf in high school when he started a business, selling reclaimed golf balls to locals. His entrepreneurial savvy was such that he was able to pay his way through college by selling golf balls. After graduating, Tom continued to build his inventory by expanding into used balls and demo clubs. His primary sales outlet was via flea markets and trade shows, but it was always a side gig until eBay[8] gave him the worldwide distribution channel he needed.

Tom started the Rock Bottom Golf[9] in 2002 with the prospect of global growth in the golfing industry. With nearly 25 million people playing golf, Tom decided to quit his day job and put all his efforts into his new business. He partnered with his brother, Todd Rath, and friend Shannon Smith to form Rock Bottom Golf[10].

Rock Bottom Golf quickly made a name for itself as a discount retailer of golf equipment. The company has continued to grow as inventory expanded to include new golf clubs, golf bags, golf apparel, and virtually anything else professionals and everyday golfers need on and off the golf course. Rock Bottom Golf is a leader in the retail golf industry, offering tens of thousands of products from top brands. They are innovators in the digital space, with a high conversion rate[11] among golf shoppers.

In 2017 Rock Bottom Golf moved into their warehouse[12] in Suffolk, Virginia. The company is now a prominent online retailer, selling golf equipment and clothing through digital channels online.
