Rubel Brisolla
Rubel Brisolla (Volta Redonda, April 10, 1991) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter.[1] In September 2018, his album Casas was nominated for the Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Album at the Latin Grammy Awards.[2]
Career
Born in Volta Redonda, a municipality in the Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil, his family moved to the state’s capital when he was seven years old. During high school, Rubel was in a band named A Corleones, in which he used to perform in a suit, with a musical style related to alternative rock.[3]
Rubel did not dedicate himself to music during his three years of college at PUC-RIO.[3]
In 2011, Rubel moved to Austin, Texas, to study cinema at the University of Texas at Austin, a time when he started composing his first few songs.
In 2013, he released his first album, Pearl,[4] with the song "Quando Bate Aquela Saudade" becoming an internet hit. Years later, this song became part of the soundtrack of the TV series Onde Nascem os Fortes.
In 2018, Rubel released the album Casas,[5] with collaborations with Emicida and Rincon Sapiência, incorporating some influences from hip-hop and R&B. In addition to the nomination for the Latin Grammy Awards, the album was on the top 20 best Brazilian albums of 2018 on Rolling Stone Brasil magazine.[6]
In March 2023, Rubel released As Palavras, Vol. 1 & 2. The album travels through various Brazilian musical styles, including songs influenced by funk carioca, MPB, soul, samba, forró, reggaeton, hip hop, pagode and more.
