Ruby Stemmle
Ruby Stemmle is an environmental justice advocate in Maryland and the founder of EcoLatinos, an organization that focuses on educating and activating Latino communities in the Chesapeake Bay and Mid-Atlantic region concerning environmental issues. The Sierra Club[1] and the Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum[2] have recognized Stemmle as a leader in environmental justice. Prince George's County, Maryland, named her a "Hometown Hero."[3] Since Stemmle founded EcoLatinos in 2014, she has engaged over 10,000 Hispanic community members.[4]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Stemmle pivoted to supporting local Latino communities who suffered from loss of income and health impacts due to the nature of their work and living environments.[5]
In 2019, she appeared at the Women's Environmental Leadership Summit.[2]
