S.D Gopinath (Subramaniam Deva Gopinath), Managing director of Evans Engineering Company Limited Tokoroa New Zealand - Leading Manufactures of Heavy Forestry Transport Equipment. Evans Engineering Company situated in Tokoroa, New Zealand Started over 80 years ago by Evans family. Gopinath took over Evans Engineering in 1994 and he merged the Company in 2000 with EXTE Fabrik Sweden (Extendo Group) the world-leading manufacturer of load securing equipment from Sweden. He is gifted with a natural ability to train skilled staff and hold on to them. Currently third generate staff working in his company.

Early life[edit]

Born in Jaffna Sri Lanka and a student of Jaffna College, Jaffna Central College, and completed his secondary education before going to Madras Christian College, to obtain his Degree. Often known as Gopi is former Madras Christian College and Madras University Cricket and Football player.


Widely regarded as a very good wicket-keeper/batsman and a very good soccer full-back during his school and university days. His work life started when he took up a management role with Ceylon Supply and Development Colombo Sri Lanka and moved in 1983 to Singapore to join NUCON Limited as Asia’s marketing manager.

Biography[edit]

Gopi then got promoted to NUCON Limited head office in New Zealand as CEO and built the Company to spread well in Asia and USA producing Pneumatic Conveying System and Bulk Material Handling Systems to most of the Prominent Foods, Dairy and Chemical Industries. He was the youngest CEO / DIRECTOR at the time in New Zealand at the age of 36. 1992 He was awarded an export award in New Zealand and also in 2014-2015 special commendation for completing the Kiwi Rail Log Transport Trailer Project involving Exte Bolsters Sweden from the Mayor of South Waikato New Zealand. During 1994 He took over Evans Engineering co. Ltd [1] (Trailer Manufacturing Company) and built it up and merged with Exte Groups Sweden.

By implementing quality management systems and using high-quality products from partners such as Exte the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of timber bunks and automatic tensioners for the safe and profitable transportation of timber by road rail the company has demonstrated its formal commitments to ensuring customer’s needs are efficiently met. Situated in Tokoroa, New Zealand, a leading center for forestry activity, Evans Engineering has grown to a medium-size heavy engineering establishment in the New Zealand manufacturing sector. During the 1950s Evans Engineering Company Limited was transformed into a general engineering company, with an emphasis on agriculture work. As the company grew with the forestry expansion around it, Evans manufactured earthmoving and logging equipment, then in the 1980s started to specialize in logging transport in 2011. Evans on a major contract with Kiwi Rail to mount Exte bolster systems to their existing carriages. This was a huge undertaking for Evans and not without its share of difficulties, however using previous knowledge and expertise, Evans was able to complete this contract one month ahead of schedule and to the highest standard of professionalism that was expected from our staff. The company manufactures Heavy Log Transport Trailers and other types of Heavy Trailer Exported to Australia / South Africa / Malaysia / Indonesia. Gopi had an excellent relationship with customers and staff for over 25 years in the forestry industry in New Zealand, Indonesia, and other Asian countries.

ASIA REGION[edit]

From 1983 to 1987 Gopi was responsible for establishing NU-CON Limited in the Asian Region supplying pneumatic conveying and materials handling equipment for most of the Food Pharmaceutical Dairy and Chemical Industries. At that time the Asian region was transforming into Bulk Material Handling and his contribution to the industry was recognized by the management.

From 2002 to date (past 17 years) under the leadership of Gopi. Evans Engineering (NZ) and the parent Company Exte Sweden has manufactured Heavy Log Transport Equipment to Indonesia Pulp and Paper Mills – which is one of the world's largest Pulp and Paper Mills.
