Simeón Mobo a native of Lezo, served as spokesperson of the Aklanons in the first call for an independent Province of Aklan from the Province of Capiz presented to the Taft Commission in 1901. For this, he is credited as the "Grandfather of Aklan". He was highly complimented by William Taft for excellent delivery of his speech in English. His petition was vehemently contested though, the different speakers being given free rein for their eloquence. The request for separation was described as "premature", the Capiz Province having suffered heavily through war, rinderpest, and locusts at that time. The eventual separation was only realized in 1956, 55 years later. One of the highlights of his career was his successful mediation between the Americans and the local revolutionaries. He has served the government in various capacities as the first provincial Secretary of Capiz, Representative of the 3rd District (Aklan section) of Capiz, Municipal councilor of Kalibo, Presidente Municipal (Mayor) of Calibo which was then enlarged by the Americans to include Numancia, Lezo and Banga as its districts (1913-1916) and second Governor of Capiz. Later, he became a member of the provincial board for two terms until his retirement. As a historian, he has authored the book Historicos del Municipio de Calivo. He also founded the defunct Colegio del Santo Rosario, a private school for boys in Aklan. For his achievements in government service, he was recognized posthumously by the Province of Aklan as an Outstanding Aklanon in the year 1979. A street in Lezo was named after him. In 1984, the Batas Pambansa Bilang 812 was enacted to rename Lezo Elementary School to Don Simeon Mobo Reyes Memorial Elementary School in his honor. The change in name was however not implemented until today. Photo credits: Album histórico de la primera Asamblea filipina. Compilado por Anthony R. Tuohy.
