The Salem Local Planning Authority ( SLPA ) , is nodal planning agency for Salem City Municipal Corporation and its Suburbs of Indian state of TamilNadu. Salem Local Planning Authority administers the Salem Metropolitan Area, spread over an area of 675.59 km². And covers the area of Salem City Municipal Corporation , 8 Town Panchayats and 7 Panchayat Unions. Total population of the area covered by Salem Local Planning Authority is 17,74,122.[1][2][3][4]

The Salem Local Planning Authority is constituted as an ad hoc body in 1972 under the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act 1971. It was formed as the nodal town planning authority for the city of Salem and its suburbs (Neighborhoods of Salem) and became a statutory body in 1997. It is headed by district collector as its chairman. And this authority is under Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.[5][6][7][8][9][10]
