History[edit]

Prior to 1965 in independent India, Thandai Periyar Transport Corporation was headquartered at Villupuram and Cuddalore, Pattukottai Alagiri Transport Corporation was headquartered at Vellore and Thiruvannamalai and MGR Transport Corporation was headquartered at Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram.

Later, it was renamed as the Integrated Transport Corporation of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation - Villupuram in 1990 and is still functioning today.

Villupuram Transport Corporation has 10 districts namely

Regional Headquarters and Workshops[edit]

  • Thiruvannamalai Transport Zone Zone Thiruvannamalai - 1, Thiruvannamalai - 2, Thiruvannamalai - 3, Arani, Seiyar, Polur, Vandavasi - 1, Vandavasi - 2, Chettupattu, Sengam, Koyambedu and Kalasapakkam Workshops and Arani - 2nd Workshop in the Thiruvannamalai District. There is also a demand to set up new workshops in Peranamallur, Vembakkam and Samunamarathur to increase the number of buses.
  • Krishna Nagar, Konavattam - 1, Konavattam - 2, Gudiyatham, Peranampattu, Coimbatore workshops are located in Vellore district, Tirupattur and Ambur workshops are located in Tirupati district and Arcot and Cholingar workshops are located in Ranipettai district.
  • Through the Kancheepuram Zone, there are bus depots at Kanchipuram, Orikai-1, Orikai-2, Uttiramerur and Coimbatore in Kanchipuram district, Chengalpattu-1, Chengalpattu-2 in Chengalpattu district, Tambaram, Madurantakam and Kalpakkam.

Workshops are located at Tiruvallur, Thiruthani, Pothatturpet, Uthukkottai, Ponneri and Coimbatore in the Tiruvallur district through the Tiruvallur zone.

  • Villupuram Zone through Villupuram Zone Villupuram - 1, Villupuram - 2, Villupuram - 3, Tindivanam, Pondicherry, Gingee and Coimbatore Workshops and Kallakurichi - 1, Kallakurichi - 2, Chinnasalem, Ulundurpettai, Tirukovilur and Sankarapuram are located in Kallakurichi District.
  • Cuddalore - 1, Cuddalore - 2, Neyveli T.S, Chidambaram - 1, Chidambaram - 2, Virudhachalam - 1, Virudhachalam - 2, Kattumannarkoil, Tittakkudi, Panruti, Vadalur are located in Cuddalore district.

Vellore and its environs alone have a population of over 8 lakhs but the number of buses plying from Vellore to the southern districts is very low or one or two buses as well as the city buses in Vellore considering this. The demand to create is being talked about all over the Vellore district.
