Schmidtville, California
Schmidtville is a former unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, California, now contained within the city of El Cerrito, California.[1] It was located 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Stege.[1]
El Cerrito was incorporated in August 1917. The communities of Stege Junction, Rust, Schmidtville, and Schindler, were all included in the new city.[2][3][4] Schmidtville was close to a flag stop on the Santa Fe Railroad[5] called Schmidt, so the area was also called Schmidt. It was centered around Schmidt Lane. The 1915 USGS map labeled the community as Schmidt. The 1920 census shows that the Schmidtville community had many Italian immigrants.[6]
A post office operated at Schmidtville from 1900 to 1901.[1]
