Segun Fatudimu (born in Ibadan, Oyo State on 03 June 1990) is a Nigerian Youth Development Strategist, and Social Entrepreneur and a Dentist. Segun founded and is also the Director of Sozo Networks , a non-profit, non-governmental organization whose focus is on increasing the participation of youth in leadership and reducing unemployment in Nigeria using a two-pronged approach that provides professional and leadership development for youths while they volunteer to empower low income teenagers with knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed for life, career, and leadership before they turn 18.[1] Segun holds a Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery from University of Ibadan, Nigeria and certifications in Civic Leadership from Appalachian State University and Leadership and Management in Health from the University of Washington. He is also one of the second class of Obama Foundation Scholars who hail from 28 countries around the world.[2]

Education[edit]

Segun Fatudimu started his secondary education in Methodist Grammar School, Bodija Ibadan, later proceeding to have Bachelor of Dental surgery from the University of Ibadan and a certification in Civic Leadership from Appalachian State University, North Carolina, as part of the 2017 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. In 2019, Segun Fatudimu got into the prestigious Harris School of Policy, University of Chicago through the Obama Foundation Scholars Program to obtain a Master's degree in International development and Policy.[3][4]

In 2017, Segun Fatudimu with other 100 Nigerians won a place at The Young African Leaders Initiative Fellowship for Young African Leaders, launched by the Barack Obama administration in 2014, MWF is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) that empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking.[5]

Career[edit]

Segun is an associate fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society and also a senior partner at UrDentalPlace a chain of dental clinics in Ibadan, Nigeria. He was also the President of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria, where he provides leadership for the Mandela Washington Fellows and over 100,000 YALI Network members in Nigeria in year 2018.[6]

He is also the founder and director of Sozo Networks a youth led non-profit organization that trains and empowers young Nigerians through experiential training, volunteering opportunities, and local and international connections and hands-on experiences. Through the Sozo Networks, he convened the Youth in development Bootcamps sponsored by the US embassy and the SAFE conference a teenage conference that host more than 100 teenagers from public and private secondary schools in Ibadan.[7]

In May of 2018, Segun Fatudimu won a grant provided and administrated by the U.S. Department of State and IREX to host a grant workshops in which Jesse Lutabingwa visited to Nigeria to conduct grant workshops through Young African Leaders Initiative Reciprocal Exchange Grant.[8]
