Sheikh Sir Aliur Rahman, KGOR, OBE is a Bangladeshi-British businessman, entrepreneur, and social activist. He is the Chief Executive of the London Tea Exchange.[1]
Work and awards
Sheikh Aliur founded the Global Fair Pay Charter to improve the wages and living conditions of tea plantation workers. Rahman's efforts were first recognised by being awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 2022.[2] In 2023, the organisation's charter was presented to the United Nations and officially recognised at Mansion House in London in a ceremony bringing together the UN, Commonwealth of Nations, and the Lord Mayor of London.[3] He was Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the 2023 New Year Honors by King Charles III for "services to the Tea Industry and to Young People".[4] The Philippines Government nominated him for the country's highest state honor for his contribution to the support and implementation of fair wages for workers worldwide, resulting in his appointment as Knight Grand Officer of the Order ofthe Knights of Rizal. In addition, Rahman's establishment of the Global Fair Pay Charter [5] was recognised by his award as one of the 2025 Peace Laureates of the Sino-Phil Asia International Peace Awards in 2025.[6][7]
