Sheila June Nezhad
Sheila June Nezhad is a community organizer. She was a Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party candidate for mayor of Minneapolis in the 2021 election.[1][2][3] The Minnesota DFL did not endorse a candidate in the race, but Nezhad came the closest, with 53% of the vote after the final round of ranked-choice voting.[4][5] She made policing a central focus of her campaign.[6]
Biography[edit]
Nezhad’s father is an Iranian immigrant and her mother is of Anishinaabe, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry. She was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and raised in Woodbury, Minnesota. She earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota-Morris and a master's degree in development practice from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She identifies as queer.[7][2]
