Shen Xiaoting (Chinese: 沈小婷; pinyin: Shěn Xiǎotíng; born November 12, 1999), better known mononymously as Xiaoting (Hangul: 샤오팅), is a Chinese singer and former ballroom dancer based in South Korea. She became a professional ballroom dancer in 2013. She is currently a member of the South Korean girl group, Kep1er after placing ninth in the final episode of Girls Planet 999. Xiaoting is a gold medalist in the 'Zhongshun Jierou Cup', 'CBDF China Cup Tour' and 'CBDF National Championships'.
Early life[edit]
Shen Xiaoting was born on November 12, 1999, in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.[1][2] Shen Xiaoting has an older sister and they were both raised only by their mother. Xiaoting attended Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in the Dance department and attended Sichuan Conservatory of Music in the Department of Performance.
Career[edit]
2013-2020: Ballroom Dancing, Pre-debut[edit]
Shen Xiaoting was a competitive ballroom and modern dancer, having won over 50 awards and multiple gold medal prizes such as in a modern dance sport competition held in Shanghai, as well as ranking sixth globally in a British competition.[3] In early 2020, Shen appeared on Tencent's girl group survival show Produce Camp 2020, a spinoff of the Korean reality show series Produce 101. Xiaoting was eliminated in episode 4, where she ranked 80th.[4]
2021–present: Girls Planet 999 and debut with Kep1er[edit]
On July 7, 2021, Shen was announced as one of the contestants of Mnet's survival show Girls Planet 999, through the prologue trailer of the show, and on July 18, 2021 her official profile for the show was released.[5] In the final episode of the show, Xiaoting ranked ninth with a total of 700,663 points thus making her debut in the group of Kep1er.[6][7] On January 3, 2022, she officially as a member of the group with the EP, First Impact.[8] Shen was announced to make her acting debut and playing a supporting role in the Chinese television series To Our Ten Years.[9]
Personal life[edit]
On December 14, 2021, it was announced Xiaoting tested positive for COVID-19 and postponed all schedules.[10] On December 26, it was announced Xiaoting had fully recovered and schedules have been resumed.[11]
