Showa American Story (Simplified Chinese: 昭和米国物语; traditional Chinese: 昭和米國物語; pinyin: Zhāohé Mǐguó Wùyǔ), is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Chinese indie studio NEKCOM Games with an alternative history premise of Japan's culturally colonizing America. The game, revealed in 2022, is set to be released for Windows PC and PlayStation 5 in 2025.

Premise

The game is set in a world where the Showa era did not end in 1989 and the Japanese asset price bubble did not burst in 1991. In Showa 66 (1991), Japan, with unchallengeable economic power, purchased over half of America, converting the United States to an unofficial colony of Japanese economics and culture. The protagonist Choko Chigusa, who cherished a dream of becoming an actress, was killed upon her arrival at Neo Yokohama (Hollywood) airport. She was resurrected, finding a different world fraught with zombies and internecine human warfare.[1]
