Shrimant Damodar (Devanagari: श्रीमंत दामोदरपंत) Pant is a Marathi play written by Omkar Mangesh Datt and directed by Kedar Shinde. Bharat Jadhav essays the titular role of Shrimant Damodar Pant. Vijay Chavan plays the role of Ganpat.[1]

Synopsis[edit]

A naive young man, Damu lives with his happy and loving family. Damu’s family comprises of his father Ganpat, mother Shanta, sister Suman, elder brother Vijay and his wife, Naina. The unemployed but obedient Damu receives love and care from his family.

They live in their ancestral wada “Keshav Mahal”, built by one of Ganpat’s renowned ancestors. Every evening at 6 P.M., Damu’s late grandfather Shrimant Damodar Pant’s spirit enters Damu’s body. All the family members join the charade to humour Damu but are always worried as they prepare for the daily routine of the arrival of the elderly spirit.

They fear Damu’s alter ego, as Shrimant is very strict and presumptuous. The charade sometimes continues into the night, thus exhausting the family members.

Damu’s personality change creates problems for everyone in the family. When marriage proposals start pouring in for his unmarried sister, many farcical situations arise, and a laugh-riot ensues.
