Siobahn Day Grady is an American computer scientist, information scientist, entrepreneur and educator. She has worked towards diversifying the STEM field.[1] Grady is an assistant professor of Information Science/Systems in the School of Library and Information Science at North Carolina Central University, she is an AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador, and a blackcomputeHER fellow.[2][3] She has been named a, "pioneer in artificial intelligence and machine learning".[3]

Biography[edit]

Siobahn Day Grady graduated from HBCU's three times.[4] She received her BS degree in computer science from Winston-Salem State University in 2005, her master's degree in Information science from North Carolina Central University in 2009,[5] and in 2018 obtained her master's degree and a PhD in Computer Science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.[6][7][2] Grady is the first woman to receive a PhD in computer science from this university.[8][1]

Grady's research spans from misinformation on social media,[9][better source needed] to cybersecurity, to improving fault-detection in self-driving cars.[10][7] She, alongside Daniel Limbrick received a $190,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2020, in order to further study self driving cars.[3][7]

Grady is a community leader, and entrepreneur working to make computer science more inclusive[1][11] through her work with several associations, including the FIRST Robotics Competition in North Carolina, Girl Scouts of the USA, and Black Girls Code.[12] Grady was among 125 female STEM innovators selected to serve as If/Then Ambassadors.[13][14]
