Someone Dies In This Elevator
Someone Dies In This Elevator is an independent fiction podcast created by Tal Minear and first published in 2021. It is a spoiler driven anthology series, where the premise of each episode is that a character dies in the elevator at some point in the story.[1] It contains an international cast and crew, with notable members including Alice Wong, Erin Kyan, and Felix Trench.
Format[edit]
Each episode contains a new setting and different characters, and can therefore be listened in any order. They run between 12 and 20 minutes long.[2] Each episode is written by a different writer and often features a pair of guest voice actors.[3] The audio drama combines genres and styles across each season, including supernatural horror, futuristic sci-fi, comedy, and slice of life.[4]
Production[edit]
Someone Dies In This Elevator is funded by fans of the show. Season 1's budget came entirely from a crowdfunding campaign before release. The podcast operates on a profit share, where what is raised during crowdfunding is split evenly among the cast and crew.[5] Season 1 consisted of 11 full cast episodes released biweekly and two seasonal bonus episodes. The cast and crew for this season was 65 people, and production took just over a year. In between season Someone Dies In This Elevator publishes single-narrator microfiction episodes.[6]
Critical reception[edit]
Someone Dies In This Elevator has been praised for its premise and unique episodes.[7] It was accepted into the 2022 Minnesota Web Fest and 2022 Miami Web Fest.[8][9]
