Sophie Herxheimer is an artist and poet living and working in London.
Career[edit]
In 2015 Sophie was named the inaugural winner of the Free Verse Poetry Book Fair Competition.[1] Between December 2019 & May 2020 Sophie held the Peleh Family Residency in Berkeley, California.[2][3] Sophie has held residencies at LIFT, Museum of Liverpool, The Migration Museum[4] and Transport for London and had exhibitions at The Whitworth, Tate Modern, The Poetry Library and The National Portrait Gallery.[5][6] She currently teaches at the Royal Drawing School.[7]
Velkom to Inklandt[edit]
Sophie's 2017 book Velkom to Inklandt[8] plays on the difficulties of English lenkvitch (language) and vokebulerry (vocabulary), using phonetic spellings of words to borrow the voice of her German Jewish Grent Muzzer (grandmother) Liesel. It was The Guardian's Book of the Day on Tuesday 26th September 2017 - Kate Kellaway described the book as "uplifting, funny, heart-breaking – a one-off." [9] The book was also named one of The Sunday Times Poetry Books of the Year in 2017.[10] In 2022 it was adapted into a play, to be performed at JW3 by Sarah Mallin in November 2022.[11]

Personal Life[edit]
Sophie is the daughter of textile designer Susan Collier[16][17] & clinical pharmacologist Andrew Herxheimer.[18] She is the granddaughter of actress Patience Collier.[16]
