SpongeBob Simulator is a massively multiplayer online incremental game developed and published by Gamefam Studios, under license and association with Nickelodeon and Paramount Global on the gaming and game development platform Roblox.
Gameplay
In SpongeBob Simulator, the player journeys Bikini Bottom collecting doubloons and rubies through the use of buddies, which are miniature versions of the characters.[2] Buddies collect the currencies for the player which the player can use to purchase various items, such as a boat mount, additional buddy slots, and the Octuple Clam Open, allowing simultaneous opening of eight clams.[3]
Initially, the player's character is their Roblox avatar, but they can obtain characters from the franchise to play as (in a similar manner to Sonic Speed Simulator). When first played, the player will be asked to choose a buddy, with the options being Patrick, SpongeBob, and Squidward.
History
In February 2023, Gamefam announced its partnership with Nickelodeon and Paramount Global to create a SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on Roblox.[4] On September 9, 2023, the game was released in beta for 99 Robux and an official launch was announced to be taking place in January 2024.[5] On January 20, 2024, a free preview of the game was released.[3] A trailer was released on January 25, 2024, with the launch originally being set for January 26.[6] However, the game was later rescheduled to launch on February 2, 2024.[‡ 1]
Events
As part of Nickelodeon's SpongeBob-themed Super Bowl LVIII broadcast, there was a Super Bowl LVIII event that began on February 2, 2024, and ended on February 19.[7][8]
SpongeBob Simulator was also among the various Roblox games featured in Roblox's "The Hunt: First Edition".[9]
