Raumschiff Highlander (translated: Starship Highlander) is a fan-created science fiction film and novel series. The series was initiated in 1993 by Robert Amper. Originally, a fan club of science fiction, especially for Star Trek (aka ST:TOS or just TOS), and the Star Wars movies, whose members met regularly. Some members having experience in filmmaking, the idea spawned of creating material for a movie. First episode of the series aired in 1995 on German TV Channel SAT.1. Inspired by the success of their movie came four additional sequels at the rate of one per year. The movies are a parody of Star Trek and other classics of the genre.
The main character, Captain Robert T. Norad, is the cocksure yet moronic commander of the spacecraft, loosely based on Don Quixote (for his high self esteem) and Inspector Clouseau (for his physical comedy).
Movies[edit]
- The Return of Captain Norad (1995)
- Captain Norad, Ruler of the Universe (1996)
- Captain Norad, King of the Impossible (1997)
- History (1998)
- Norad - Resurrection (1999)
Robert Amper has declared the film series finished and turned to other projects.
By the end of 2006, an independent movie, not linked to the original production of the series, titled Raumschiff Highlander - WILDFIRE (translated Spaceship Highlander - WILDFIRE) was announced.
On 24 October 2007, a teaser trailer was published and spread very quickly.
In February 2008, the five original episodes of the Raumschiff Highlander series were revised and digitally remastered as part of a major American Science Fiction Convention in Boston, MA, movie projection.
