Stomvi, sometimes stylized as STOMVI, is a Spanish manufacturer of brass instruments operating as a subsidiary of Horniba S.A. The company was founded in 1984 by Vincente Honorato Ibáñez.
History[edit]
Vicente Honorato started a fine jewellery company in 1980. Two years later, he started a new passion project for the production of hand-crafted brass instruments.[1] This transition was inspired by artisan jewellers in Nuremberg applying their talents to instrument making in early modern Europe. Vicente Honorato is known for using perfect pitch to tune the instruments he creates, though he does not play the trumpet himself.[2] He has received over fifteen patents for his innovations.[3] To this day, jewellery craftsmen are hired to work at the Stomvi factory and repair section.[4]
On the occasion of the company's thirtieth anniversary in 2014, the Stomvi facilities at Xirivella, Spain were remodeled.[5] Two study rooms were added that enabled customers and collaborating artists to interact with employees. An instrument showroom exists, and tours are available to visitors.
Products[edit]
Stomvi produces professional-grade instruments under the Elite, Titán, and Master lines. Intermediate-grade instruments are produced under the Forte and S1 names. Trumpets are produced in the keys of A, B♭, C, E♭/D, F/G, E/F/G, and high B♭/A. Cornets are produced in the keys of B♭, C, E♭/D, F, G, and high A. Stomvi also makes B♭ flugelhorns and a rotary-valve corno da caccia. The company is well-known for producing piston-valve instruments with four valves. French horns are produced as single horns, double horns, and descant double horns. Tenor, alto, and bass trombones are produced with and without triggers. Nearly all Stomvi instruments are renowned for their silver or gold plate options and their proprietary Bellflex, or Flex Brass alloy,[6] option used for bells. Other products from the company include mouthpieces and UpSound, a practice aid meant for use with the player's mouthpiece[7] and a tool endorsed by Venezuelan trumpeter Pacho Flores.[8]
