Sujeet Swami is an Indian Social activist who fight for human rights.[1] He came into the limelight after fighting for the right of over nine lacs unaware railway customers of IRCTC, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways for a refund of Rs. 35 which was illegitimate deduction due to a glitch in GST rules implementation.[2][3]

Sujeet was born in Kota Rajasthan. He is graduated (BE from Rajasthan Technical University. He has done M.Tech in Thermal Engineering and PGDC in Human Rights. He has worked in IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh as Junior Assistant. During his tenure at IIT Mandi, he exposed various irregularities in recruitments and bonus of outsourcing staff. Later he was terminated from IIT Mandi.[4]

Notable Cases[edit]

Sujeet's 1st PIL was against Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam to fence all uncovered transformers. It was admitted and disposed after accepting by board that they will initiate the work.

In 2017, Rajasthan High Court issued a notice to Indian Railways for ‘discriminatory’ refund rules on cancellation of waiting tickets booked via online or through reservation counter. The high court issued the notice after the PIL of Sujeet Swami. He exposed how Indian Railways was earning through cancellation of waiting tickets. On this Indian Railways earned Rs 1,621 crore in 2014-15 and Rs 1,536 crore in 2015–16.[5][6]

He also revealed that how central government helped State of Rajasthan in Pandemic COVID-19.[7]

In July 2019, Sujeet filled a PIL in Himachal Pradesh High Court for a fair investigation of Irregularities in IIT Mandi.[8][9]

Sujeet Swami filed a case in Central Information Commission during the hearing central information Commissioner given landmark decision in his favor.[10][11]

After this instance Sujeet was terminated by IIT Mandi management. But later he was supported by Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur and M.P.Ram Swaroop Sharma.[4] And the issue was raised in the Parliament of India.[12]

In Nov 2019, Sujeet filed a PIL in Delhi High Court regarding closing private schools in IIT Campuses and open Kendriya Vidyalaya, which is admitted and disposed with decision in favor.[13]
