Sunil Ambalavelil is an Indian lawyer based in UAE.[1][2][3] He is a Senior advisor for the Middle East region at SAARC LAW and Founding Partner of NYK Law Firm.[4][5][6][2] He was awarded the Golden Visa by the UAE Government for his contributions in the legal sector in 2021[4] and the best Indian lawyer award in Dubai by the Vokkaligara Sangha in 2024[7][5]
Early life and Education
Sunil pursued his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at SDM Law College, Mangalore, earning his degree in 2002.[4]
Career
Sunil began his legal career in 1999 as a legal intern under senior counsel S.P. Chengappa in Mangalore during his college days, India. In 2002, he joined Singhania & Co as an Associate Advocate.[8] In 2005, Sunil founded the Ambavelil Law Firm where he managed cases such as corporate restructuring for the CISCE.[8][1] He worked in intellectual property, corporate litigation, and drafting complex agreements.[1][9][10] In 2006, Sunil shifted to UAE and started working at Hourani and Associates in Dubai, providing advisory services to blue-chip companies and managing business incorporations within the UAE's free zones.[8] He played a key role in liaising with regulatory authorities such as the DIFC and Dubai Economic Department.[3][8]
From 2008 to 2010, Sunil served as legal counsel for DAMAC Properties, overseeing real estate projects in the UAE. Between 2010 and 2016, he held a senior role at Gulftainer, advising on compliance and financial agreements with the International Finance Corporation.[11]
He is currently working as the Founding Partner and Head of Office UAE at NYK Law Firm.[1][2] He is a member of Karnataka Bar Council[8][3] and Supreme Court of Bar Association of India.[12] He offers pro bono legal services to individual who may not have the means to afford legal representation.[3][13]
