Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati is a Hindu religious leader and a claimant to the seat of shankaracharya of Jyotir Math.[1][2] He is also a member of Shri Ram Janmbhumi Teerth Kshetra, a trust entrusted with construction and maintenance of Shri Ram Mandir, Ayodhya.[1][3]

After the death of Brahmanand Saraswati then shankracharya of Jyotir Peeth, his disciple Swami Shantanand Saraswati was appointed Shankaracharya but he left the position and appointed Swami Vishnudevanand Saraswati, a fellow disciple of Brahmanand in his place in 1980 but Vishnudevanand died in 1989. Again as senior shankaracharya he appointed his disciple Vasudevanand Saraswati as next Shankracharya of Jyotir Math on November 14, 1989.[4] However his appointment was challenged in courts and by other claimants of the title and court directed to appoint new Shankaracharya but the decision was never materialised and the issue remains unresolved.[5]

Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati occupied the historical peeth built by Brahmanand Saraswati in Jyotir Math city.
