T. Douglas Stump is an American immigration lawyer who served as the president of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in 2013-2014. Stump is founder and partner at Stump & Associates, an immigration law firm established in 1990 in Oklahoma City, OK.[1]

Education[edit]

Stump was an undergrad at East Central University from 1975 - 1979. He received his Juris Doctor Law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1982.[2]

Significant cases[edit]

In 2012, Doug Stump successfully won a deportation reprieve for Gabriela and Angel Tepe’s case as the first in Oklahoma[3] to qualify for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.[4]

Early career[edit]

Stump is the former General Counsel of the Oklahoma State Council for Human Resource Management and an adjunct professor of Immigration law at his alma mater, the Oklahoma City University School of Law.[5]

American Immigration Lawyers Association[edit]

Stump served as the AILA President[5] in 2013-2014.[6] His platform focused on immigration reform and client education.[7]

During Stump’s tenure as president, AILA partnered with the Department of Justice and the Corporation for National Community Service to form “Justice AmeriCorps”.[8] The program pairs Americorps members with unaccompanied migrant children to provide legal assistance.[9]

Apart from serving as president, Stump has been active in the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) since 1983.[1]

Throughout Stump’s AILA career, his contributions include the role of senior editor for the AILA publications[10] and served on various AILA Boards and Committees. He has served on the AILA Board of Governors and a past president of the Texas Chapter of AILA.[1] In 2009, Stump was named the association’s National Treasurer.[10]
