Tanveer Zamani is an American surgeon and commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve. She was born in Hyderabad, India.[1] She is the mother of four children; two daughters and two sons, and has pursued a career in surgery, military service, and humanitarian advocacy while balancing professional and family responsibilities.
Early Life and Education
Tanveer Zamani hails from an academically inclined family. She is the maternal granddaughter of Dr. Syed Mohiuddin Qadri Zore, a prominent scholar, poet, and social reformer. Her mother, Tahzeeb Zore Farooqui, was a Professor of Linguistic Sciences, and her father, Yahya A. Farooqui, was a Professor of Medicine and the Dean of a medical college in Pakistan. Zamani completed her initial medical graduation from Jinnah Sindh Medical University in Pakistan.
Marriage and Migration
At the age of 23, Tanveer Zamani entered into an arranged marriage and, following local traditions, emigrated from Pakistan to pursue postgraduate education in Dublin, Ireland, and subsequently, to the US for advanced surgical training.
Professional Career
Tanveer Zamani's career in surgery began to flourish after successfully completing her training and passing the General Surgery fellowship board examination of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI).
Continuing Education in the United States
In June 1998, Tanveer Zamani and her family moved to the United States. There, she completed an accredited five-year surgical residency while balancing her responsibilities as a mother of four young children. She subsequently completed advanced surgical training in trauma and surgical critical care in the United States and became board certified in General Surgery and Trauma, Surgical Critical Care. She was awarded the designation of Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and fellow, American College of Surgeons (FACS).
