Taqwa International School (TIS) (Arabic: مدارس منهاج التقوى العالمية) was a K–8 gender-isolated English medium community-based foreign lower secondary school in al-Nahdah, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, active from 2007 to 2012 and primarily served the city's Indian diaspora.
Founded in 2007,[1] it was affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and served students from grades KG to 8 prior to its closure by Saudi authorities in 2012 over non-compliance of building regulations.[2]
History[edit]
Taqwa International School was established on 28 April 2007 near Exit 30 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.[1][3] The school's founding chairman, MH Zulqarnain, told to Arab News that the school is offering courses from Nursery to second grade at the initial stage. In 2011, the school's management committee announced the relocation of campus to al-Nahdah neighborhood of Riyadh due to inconducive capacity of the institute's premises for day-to-day operations in the private villa.[4] However, classes remained suspended for an indefinite period of one month soon after the relocation of the campus as the ministry officials were due to inspect the new premises in order to approve its usage.[5] The ministry expressed certain dissatisfactions in regards to the building regulations and asked the school authorities to rectify the issue as soon as possible without hampering their working hours, however, the school officials allegedly disparaged the ministry's concerns and obdurately kept operating the school despite stern warnings from the authorities. On April 3, 2012, the school notified parents that classes would be temporarily suspended indefinitely from April 4 onwards as certain formalities were unmet.[2] The school has remained closed since then, never to reopen again.
