Taylor Kirkham (born January 19, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the New York Ballers of the Junior Basketball Association (JBA).

High school career[edit]

Kirkham went to Oxnard High School for high school education in Oxnard, California. There, he played on the high school varsity basketball team, originally playing as a point guard before developing more as a shooting guard there. After being a regular roster member during his first three seasons, he became the team's captain in his senior year.[1] During that year, he averaged 17 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals per game.[2] Throughout his career, he helped get the team to two undefeated league seasons, as well as two playoff appearances.[3] As a result, he had the honor of getting First Team All-League and First Team All-County twice. He was also voted Most Valuable Player in his senior season.

College career[edit]

Throughout his career, California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) member Moorpark College noticed his talent, and enrolled him into the Moorpark College Raiders men's basketball team. In his first game on November 3, 2016, Kirkham recorded 12 points and 1 rebound in 50 minutes of playing time in a 102–58 blowout loss to Riverside Community College.[4] Notable games include 6 points, 5 rebounds (which were the most he'd have that season), 2 assists, and 2 steals in a 64–58 win against Rio Hondo College[5] and 20 points, 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, and 1 block in a loss against Glendale Community College.[6] During his sole season there, he averaged 8.2 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 rebounds, while shooting at 40.2% from the field goal, 41.4% from the 3-point line, and 60.9% from the free-throw line.[7] However, during what was originally supposed to be his sophomore year at Moorpark in the 2017–18 season, Kirkham experienced an injury that would leave him out of commission for the entire season.[8]

Professional career[edit]

After missing out on his entire sophomore season, Kirkham tried out for the Los Angeles Ballers as a walk-on candidate in April 2018. He would make it as one of the team's original seven players to join the inaugural team, which included players like Greg Floyd Jr. and Niles Malone.[9] Kirkham made his professional JBA debut on June 23, 2018, recording 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in a 134–124 win over the New York Ballers.[10] Three days later, he recorded what would be his best scoring game with Los Angeles, recording 18 points off the bench in a 150–145 win over the Seattle Ballers.[11] In his third game playing in the JBA, Kirkham recorded a team-high 7 assists with 10 points and 6 rebounds in a blowout 130–108 loss to the New York Ballers.[12] Near the halfway point of the season, it was announced that he would leave the Los Angeles Ballers to go to the New York Ballers the same year of making the Los Angeles Ballers squad. This decision was to make room for their newest addition, LiAngelo Ball,[13] a three-star undrafted recruit and brother of five-star recruit LaMelo Ball and brother of National Basketball Association player Lonzo Ball. After waiting for nearly a week after first joining the New York Ballers, he made his return to playing professionally on July 24.[14] That night, he put up his best game yet in the JBA, recording 29 points off the bench on 9/14 shooting (including 6/9 three-pointers made) as the team's leading scorer in a 119–114 overtime win over the Atlanta Ballers.[15] After the conclusion of the regular season, Kirkham would be New York's representative for the JBA's inaugural Three-point Contest.[16]
