The Technogym Village is at the same time a cultural centre, an innovation laboratory and a production site where company members, customers, suppliers and guests from all over the world can enjoy a Wellness-inspired experience. [1] Located in Cesena, Italy it reflects the vision of Nerio Alessandri, founder of Technogym, who, together with architect Antonio Citterio, conceptualised a place where lifestyle, quality, design and productivity are all combined. [2]

Construction[edit]

Inaugurated on 29 September 2012 in the presence of the former President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano and Bill Clinton[3], the Technogym Village architecture is based on the concepts of eco-sustainability and bio-architecture while from a design point of view the idea was to surround the human being with natural materials, custom-made furniture to encourage a correct posture and office ergonomics, wide glass surfaces to work as much as possible with natural sunlight and integrate the building’s architecture in the local landscape. [4] The construction of this wellness campus started in 2010 by Maire Tecnimont S.p.a. and covers an area of 60,000m² of covered spaces and over a 150,000m² site. [5]

The design was inspired by the concepts of eco-sustainability and bio-architecture. The north-facing plant makes it possible to take advantage of natural heat exchange, ensuring a warmer environment in winter and a cooler one in summer months, reducing emissions from fuel consumption for heating and air conditioning systems. The building materials chosen ensure a high degree of thermal insulation, and the opening system of the large windows takes advantage of natural air recirculation to cool the temperature without the need for imposing air conditioning systems.

Architecture and design[edit]

The Technogym Village was designed by architects Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel.[6] Among the main contractors are Maire Tecnimont S.p.A., Rubner Holzbau S.p.A. and Bticino S.p.a.[7]

All of the factory's elevations are conceived through the modularity of insulated galvanized and pre-painted silver-colored steel sheet panels; all except for the façade facing the highway, which, although ostensibly the "back" of the campus, is, on the other hand, the exposure with the greatest visibility. For this reason, the elevation was ennobled by taking up, with a glass curtain wall, the common theme of the fronts toward the office park and Wellness Center.[8]

Facilities[edit]

The plant, together with the office building, the Wellness Center, which houses a conference center, a specialized media library, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and a zero-mile organic restaurant, combine to form the world's first Wellness Campus.

The three main buildings, while having their own lexical autonomy, elaborate in different forms some common themes throughout the Technogym Village. Among these the most explicit are: the extensive use of structural wood and the theme of movement.[9]
