Ted Evans (director)

Activity[edit]
Evans was initially interested in music and songwriting, and composed music for programs for deaf people. Evans started his career as a researcher at a production company for BBC's long running deaf magazine See Hear. After this experience, he decided to move on to directing. He works a freelance filmmaker through his company, Defeye Films, directing films for broadcasters such as the BBC, Channel 4 and BSL Zone.[1][2]
Evans’s short movie The End (2011) was met with critical acclaim and won several awards at film festivals. The cast include deaf actors Rose Ayling-Ellis, Brian Duffy and Alex Nowak.[3] His other works include "Retreat" and “To know him”, which was nominated for Best Short Film at BIFA (2018) and long listed for a BAFTA.[4]
In 2012 Evans co-directed with Bim Ajadi two films for the opening ceremony of the London Paralympic Games, Look Up and Bird Gherl.[5]
He is currently developing one of his short films, The Retreat, into a feature film.[6]
