The Arena Door is a novel by the Palestinian novelist Sahar Khalifah, who was born in Palestine, specifically in Nablus. However, her literary career began after a failed traditional marriage as she devoted her life to writing stories. Moreover, she won many awards, and most of her novels has been translated into more than one language. [2]

Story Events[edit]

This novel takes place in Palestine, where it tells us about the reality of Palestinian people suffer and their daily wounds. Especially, the women who suffered a lot from injustice and destruction by both the Israeli’s and members of the resistance. It all started when Sakina and Nuzha, who were working with Israel in town. [3]However, the resistance fighters kidnapped and killed Sakinah as well as tortured Nuzha both physically and psychologically, which prevented her from leaving the house. In addition, she explained her suffering of women and grievance that they faced from the society, then Hussam (the nephew of Zakiyah), who was wounded by the Israel army during the resistance. Adding that he had found himself hiding in the corner of Sukinah’s house and her daughter Nuzha who had wept and begged Aunt Zakiyah for Hussam and show their conscience in front of the Palestinian resistance, as he refused a complete refusal.
