The Cheeky Panda is retailer of bamboo household, baby and beauty, products based in the United Kingdom. The company creates paper products using bamboo, rather than wood pulp, and is known for its distinctive brand, and the panda mascot which appears in ads on television and in print.

The company was founded in January 2016 by London-based husband and wife team Chris Forbes and Julie Chen.[1] The company sells in over 25 countries and has subsidiary companies in France, USA and China.[2][3]

The Cheeky Panda has regularly used equity crowdfunding throughout its history,[4][5] raising an initial £12,785 on Crowdfunder in April 2017,[6] followed by three rounds on Seedrs, raising over £500k in August 2017,[7] £1.6m in May 2019,[8][9] and £2.4m in April 2020.[10]

Sales have grown every year between 200% to 400% and the company is listed with major retailers such as Amazon, Ocado, Tesco, Boots, WHSmith, Wholefoods UK, Carrefour - Dubai and Monoprix - France.

In 2020 the company was ranked 6th in The UK startups 100 index citing the product's ethical benefits and scale of growth.[11][12] The company was also featured in The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 Ones to Watch Category.

The company sales increased significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular as a result of the spike in demand for toilet paper following the temporary supply shortages which were experienced by a number of UK supermarkets.[13][14][15]

Environmental Social Goals[edit]

The Cheeky Panda promotes the environmental benefits of its range of products due to being sourced from bamboo, the worlds fastest growing plant as an alternative fiber to trees. In 2017 the company became carbon balanced with The World Land Trust. The companies CEO is Julie Chen who is part of MSD which promotes diversity. The company has charity partnerships with The World Land Trust, The Whale and Dolphin Foundation and Toilet Twinning as they promote harmony across Earth, Ocean and People. [27]
