Content[edit]
Its theme is the loss of a dear and loved person, the mother, who means a lot to him. The novel focuses on two central moments in the life of Hadi, the central character in the novel: The first is the moment of the death of the mother: dear Lala, that irreplaceable and indescribable woman, and the second is the moment of the death of another woman who is the first object of love, lust and burning desire: Lala Rabia. Its psychological part is surrounded by distress and depression.[1]
The narrator practices the Forgetting game, forgetting about pains and aches, calling the memories, and embarking on an imaginary diagnosis of the lost and missed a dear thing.
"Why do you want to open a door from which only aches and headaches will come to you. Although you want to write about the game of forgetting and ways to avoid what hurts the soul".»[2]
Criticism[edit]
Since its publication in its first edition in 1987, it has been the subject of wide controversy on the pages of cultural newspapers and magazines, and many university and critical studies have been published about it. It was chosen by the Moroccan Ministry of National Education from 1995 to 2005 to be one of the prescribed literature for secondary school students.
