The GroundTruth Project 2

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The GroundTruth Project is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit news organization headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, and based at WGBH since 2014.[1][2] GroundTruth's stated mission is to serve under-covered communities by supporting the next generation of journalists to do on-the-ground reporting and to advance sustainability, innovation and equity in journalism worldwide.[3]

The GroundTruth Project is headed by Charles M. Sennott, founder, chief executive officer and editor. Sennott was the cofounder of GlobalPost, and a journalist at the New York Daily News and Boston Globe.[4]

In 2017, GroundTruth launched Report for America, a national service program that places emerging journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities. The program looks to reverse the steady decline of journalists working in local newsrooms in the United States while strengthening democracy.[5][6] “I was focused on reporting on divided societies and struggling democracies. Then I realized we live in one," Sennott told the New York Times in a 2018 interview about the program.[7]

In 2021, GroundTruth launched Report for the World with partner newsrooms in India, Nigeria and Brazil. Report for the World is closely modeled after its sister program, Report for America.[8][9] It was co-founded by Sennott and Kevin Grant, GroundTruth's chief content officer. Grant told VOA News that the initiative is a response to a “global call for more sustainable, more impactful and more local reporting."[10]
