The Heritage Flag Company is the first company to create American flags out of whiskey barrels.[1] Founded in 2014 in Southern Pines, NC by Heath Trigg, the first flag was created out of whiskey barrels in order to match the taproom that Heath had been commissioned to build for Southern Pines Brewing Company.[2][3] The first Heritage Flag was offered for sale to the public on Veteran's Day 2014.[4]
History[edit]
The first Heritage Flag was created after the three founders of Southern Pines Brewing Company commissioned Heath Trigg and his then custom cabinet-making business, Southern Pine Woodworking, to create a taproom out of whiskey barrel staves for their new brewery. After the project was completed, Trigg came up with the idea of creating a matching whiskey barrel American flag as a gift for the owners who are also veterans.[4] He presented the handmade flag to them at their grand opening.[1]
Heath began receiving many requests from Southern Pines Brewery's patrons about where they could purchase a flag like the one they had seen hanging in their taproom.
On Veteran's Day 2014, Heath began selling the whiskey barrel flags to the public under the company name The Heritage Flag. The demand was so great that the former custom cabinet shop began building whiskey barrel flags full-time at their workshop in Southern Pines, NC.[4]
Since then The Heritage Flag has sold and presented flags to individuals and organizations around the world including Aaron Lewis and Colt Ford.[5]
