The Investor's Podcast Network[edit]

The Investor's Podcast Network is a business podcast network that offers its community guidance on various investing strategies and information on the latest investing news and trends in the U.S. market. It is one of the longest-running investing podcasts worldwide. It started back in 2014 when the podcast industry is just starting to take off in the U.S.[1] It is also among the first podcast networks to collaborate with Tree Goat Media in its nascent podcast discovery AI solution called Marbyl.[2]

It has been constantly recognized as one of the top investing podcasts. In 2016, it was recommended by CNBC's Closing Bell as the number 1 investing podcast.[3] Recently, it was mentioned as the number 1 finance-related podcast by Business Insider[4] and the overall best investing podcast by The Balance[5].

The podcast network is owned by Stig Brodersen and Preston Pysh who are also the hosts of its founding show, We Study Billionaires. Investing and finance experts regularly join the show as guests. Some notable guests of the show were: Howard Marks[6], Guy Spier[7], and Mohnish Pabrai[8].

Founders[edit]

Stig Brodersen studied Business and Managerial Economics at Aarhus University in 2005. He graduated in 2008, and received a master's degree from the same university in Finance and International Business in 2010. He also took courses about Business Analysis at Harvard University[9]. Brodersen co-founded the consultancy firm DinGæld ApS which provided clients with advice relating to personal finance.

Preston Pysh studied at West Point and Johns Hopkins University. He has a degree in Aerospace Engineering, and served in the military as a Captain with the 101st Airborne Division. Pysh expressed a keen interest in investing during his time in the army, particularly in the methods of Warren Buffett.[10] He went on to write several books on the subject.

History[edit]

Conception[edit]

In 2013, Brodersen stumbled upon Pysh’s Warren Buffett course on Youtube, which led him to reach out to Pysh through the latter’s online forum BuffetsBooks.com. In the same year, they met online through a call after exchanging about 200 messages back and forth.[11]

They discovered a mutual interest in the world of investing, and formed a professional partnership. They eventually decided to co-wrote a book entitled Warren Buffett Accounting Book.[12]

In 2014, Brodersen, who hails from Denmark, met with Pysh in the United States to attend the Annual Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders’ Meeting that year. Brodersen and Pysh finished their book Warren Buffett Accounting Book at that time.[11]

Pysh met fellow investors in the 2014 Berkshire Hathaway meeting. One of them is Hari Ramachanda, who encouraged Pysh to start a podcast about Warren Buffett. Knowing Brodersen shared the same interest in Warren Buffett, Pysh eventually proposed the idea of venturing into podcasting to Brodersen.[11]

In 2014, Brodersen and Pysh launched the first episode of the flagship show We Study Billionaires.[13] Initially, Brodersen and Pysh only planned to talk about Warren Buffett on the show, but they realized it is also worth discussing strategies and lessons from other successful investors, entrepreneurs, and self-made billionaires.[11]

Growth[edit]

A few months after going live, We Study Billionaires was recognized by Business Insider as one of the most recommended finance podcast shows to listen to.[14] The podcast attracted more and more unique listeners month after month.

It grew in popularity over time and became one of the largest stock investing podcasts in the world with more than 50 million downloads.[15]

In 2019, The Investor’s Podcast expanded its podcast offerings by inviting new hosts to lead and produce podcasts that tackle other aspects of investing. The Investor’s Podcast then transitioned to The Investor’s Podcast Network.[11]
