The Lamp of Umm Hashim is a novel by Yahya Haqqi (1905-1992), which was adapted into a film on November 4, 1968, with a script by Sabry Moussa and Kamal Attia, and starring Shoukry Sarhan. This book was published in 1940.[1]

Story[edit]
Ismail Talib, who lives with his mother and father in Mrs. Zainab's neighborhood, then travels to Germany to finish his medical studies, where he encounters European civilization and meets a German girl who educates him about life.Ismail then returns and works as an eye doctor and opens a clinic in the same neighborhood, Ms. Zainab, who discovers that the reason for his patients' increased disease duration is their use holly oil drops of the lamp of Umm Hashim, he also discovers that his fiancée is treated in the same way, he destroys the holly oil, his patients and parents dump him for misconceptions that he attacks and challenges their religious beliefs.He returns to treat his cousin Fatima utilizing faith and science together, as there is no need to reconcile science with beliefs. Ismail learns the importance of gaining people's and his family's love.[2]
