The Morgue Files

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Morgue Files is a horror anthology series that was created in early 2020 by David Near and Chazz Ravenelle, and uploaded to David's Youtube channel. It is said that the intention is to have completely original re-tellings of classic stories. The main focus is on remaking Creepypasta characters/stories and having it all exist within the same universe, while also utilizing characters outside of Creepypasta. The first teaser revealing the title, as well as the first case, was released on March 30th, 2020, which is roughly a month before the first case dropped. Chazz and David co-wrote, co-directed, co-composed, co-produced, and acted in the feature. Nicholas Cortez, who also acts in the projects, is the brilliant artist behind all artwork pertaining to The Morgue Files, with Toby and Jeff showcasing the grounded, realistic nature of Nick's hyperrealistic style.

CASE #1

The inaugural case was Ticci Toby, which premiered on April 29th, 2020, and saw a much more emotionally impactful and dark take on the character's story. This remake had new versions of Toby, Slender Man, and Toby's sister Lyra from the original story, but introduced a plethora of original characters. There is Dr. Wilson, a bully named Jason Camblin, the school Principal; Principal Webb, the Cothers family (Mr. Crothers and his son Danny), Toby's mother Evelyn, and his step father Frank. It takes place in the fictional town of Forest Lawn, Michigan, and it also added a much darker spin on the fate of Toby's sister. The story centers around Tobias Adams who lives in Forest Lawn, Michigan, as he relays his past to Dr. Wilson who works at Pinehearst State Hospital. The listener goes on a journey through Toby's unraveling mind as they uncover what brought him to this point. On May 4th, David uploaded the entire soundtrack he and Chazz scored for Ticci Toby.

  • Toby played by David Near: Toby is the protagonist of Case #1 and the story is told from his perspective. He is a very tragic and broken character who has suffered more than most people, but still has goodness within.

  • Millie Adams played by Acadia Rose: Lyra is Toby's older sister and the one family member he truly loves. She is deeply troubled, but also a pillar of strength who helped Toby with his bullying at school.
  • Principal Webb played by Nicholas Cortez: He is the Principal of the school that Toby attends. He's not a bad person, but he is very strict and doesn't like any student who disrupts the perceived order he maintains.
  • Mr. Crothers played by Nicholas Cortez: Mr. Crothers is Toby's neighbor, and the closest thing Toby has to a father figure, as well as a moral compass.
  • Danny Crothers played by Chazz Ravenelle: Danny is the son of Mr. Crothers and is Toby's only friend.
  • Jason Camblin played by Patrick Ferguson: Jason Camblin, otherwise known as "J.C." is a student at Toby's high school, and he is Toby's main bully. He is bald with a few missing fingers.
  • Evelyn Adams played by Erin B. Lillis: Evelyn is Toby's mother and through a series of poor decisions, she ended up neglecting her children.
  • Frank Adams played by David Near: Frank is Toby's step father and Evelyn's husband. He's an ex soldier and was progressively more abusive towards Toby and Lyra.

CASE #2

The second case was announced on August 21st with a teaser revealing it to be a remake of Jeff The Killer's story. Not much is known currently except that the remake features the Mason family rather than the traditional Woods family. The teaser revealed the inclusion of Jeff, his brother Liu, their mother Judy, a character named Aaron, the returning Principal Webb, and several characters screaming in pain.

Reception

So far the reception for Case #1 has been overwhelmingly positive with many people preferring the Morgue Files version of Toby's story over the original.
