The Org is an American business network and recruitment company.[1][2][3]
Established in 2018, the organization operates as a digital database aggregator hosting companies profiles and organizational charts that are used for professional networking and career development.[1] The company is headquartered in New York, USA with the satellite office in Copenhagen, Denmark.[4][5]
Company overview[edit]
The startup was founded in 2018 by the American-Danish entrepreneurs Christian Wylonis and Andreas Jarbøl,[6][7] both inspired by The Information's article "The People Who Matter at Airbnb" published a few months earlier.[1][3] From the beginning the company's development was based on the concept of building a digital business network for companies and startups' with visible and transparent organizational charts.[1][2]
As TechCrunch notes, "the platform became more popular following the COVID-19 and increased interest from companies to make their business profiles more public and transparent for remote hiring and collaborative work.[2]
In January 2020, the Org added "Jobs" tool to its platform, allowing companies and startups to list career openings in their organizational charts.[1]
The startup has been funded by several venture capital and private equity funds, including Founders Fund, Sequoia Capital and Balderton Capital in series A round,[4][3][7] as well as Tiger Global Management,[8] Thursday Ventures and Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen in series B round, among others.[2][5][9]
The Org's organizational charts include Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Postmates, Airbnb and Robinhood Markets, among others.[1]
Business model and membership[edit]
Companies' employees can register on the website and update professional profiles.[4] The Org's team also aggregates data from different sources and creates companies profiles independently.[1] The company's business model is predicated on collecting a large database of structured team information. Customers can use the software to align their teams, recruit professionals and explore other organizational charts for their purposes. Currently the company's main tools are Jobs, Insights, Guides, The Org Chart Database and Scout. Scout is the only monetization tool that acts as a mediator between potential employers and career professionals, allowing The Org's team to identify job candidates and match them to vacant positions on the organizational charts. The Jobs tool allows companies to create job openings on the organizational charts and initiate hiring online.
As of September 2021, The Org's platform hosted over 130,000 public organizational charts with 120,000 registered users and 30,000 daily visitors.[2]
Transparency and accuracy issues[edit]
A number of publications note that companies ability to self-report on their profiles still doesn't solve "transparency issue" for the lack of neutrality, wrong information and inconsistency.[2] In addition, sourcing information from various sources to create business profiles can sometimes bring mixed or inaccurate results. Furthermore, some corporations adhere to the policy to keep their information discreet.[3]
