The Pointe Coupee Banner
The Pointe Coupee Banner is a newspaper of Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana that has been published continuously since 1880.
Its motto is "Reporting the history of Pointe Coupee Parish since 1880" and it is still operating in 2021, having never missed an edition, through floods and wars.[1][2]
History[edit]
The Banner was established in August 1880 by American Civil War veteran Louis Bingman “Biz” Claiborne, as a four-page weekly. He was both editor and publisher of the paper, until he sold it in 1888.[3]
Owners, publishers, and editors have included:
- Albin Alexander Provosty (1865 – 1932), publisher for several years after purchasing the newspaper in 1888 with partner Miguel T. Hewes[2]
- Conrad LeCoq and his wife Nee Blanche Way owned the paper from 1906 until 1946.[2]
- Brian J. Costello (b.1966), editor during 1988-1996
The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office contributes a weekly article.
