Warta Kota (The City News) is an Indonesian local morning daily newspaper published in Jakarta, serving the Jabodetabek area.[1] It is published by PT Metrogema Media Nusantara, itself a subsidiary of Kompas Gramedia and become part of Tribun newspaper chain.

Warta Kota was published when the Ministry of Information under B.J. Habibie administration relaxed the procedures for applying press business license (SIUPP) for the new print media. Kompas Gramedia group took advantage of this opportunity with the desire to publish a newspaper in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. So far, Kompas, which also belongs to the group, had only two pages for news in Jakarta and its surroundings; even it was still filled with advertisements and though the newspaper was published in Jakarta. The reason is Kompas, as it is the national newspaper, must be proportional in reporting the regional news.[2]
PT Metrogema Media Nusantara then established and received the SIUPP No. 726/SK/MENPEN/SIUPP/1998, dated 19 November 1998. Warta Kota was first published on May 3, 1999 in the midst of the 1999 general election campaign.[2]
