The Welcome Party
The Welcome Party is an American pro-democracy group founded in 2019. Structured as a 501(c)(4) non-profit, it engages moderate voters and advocates for a big-tent Democratic Party.[1]
Background[edit]
In 2019, The Welcome Party opened its first office in Manchester, NH ahead of the 2020 presidential primary.[1][2] The New Hampshire office was led by Amy Bradley, a former Executive Director of the local Democratic Party and subsequently a Democratic state legislator.[3] The Welcome Party subsequently opened an office in Columbia, SC.[4][5]
In March 2021, The Welcome Party hosted Clyburn Day in partnership with the South Carolina Democratic Party to celebrate Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-South Carolina) and his endorsement of Joe Biden during the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries.[6] The event featured commentary from Rep. Clyburn as well as Reps. Lauren Underwood (D-Illinois), Cheri Bustos (D-Illinois), and Ritchie Torres (D-New York).[6]
Ahead of the August 2021 Ohio-11 special election primaries, The Welcome Party launched Welcome Ohio, a nonpartisan GOTV initiative that engaged voters directly and through events such as “Cuts for Congress” with local businesses in the Greater Cleveland, OH area.[7]
