Think Yourself / Think Now

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Think Yourself / Think Now (Russian: Думай сам / Думай сейчас) is a Russian animation studio. The YouTube channel of this studio was created in 2014.[1] However, the studio itself was founded in 2015, according to Svyatoslav Varnashov’s words. The animation studio popularizes the ideas of Marxism–Leninism.[2]

Studio formation

According to Varnashov, he was inspired to create the channel by the reactionary, conservative project "Okeyam no!". Despite the reactionary nature of the ideas broadcast by this project, Svyatoslav Varnashov points out in his interview that the quality of the graphics of the "Okeyam no!" videos is high. At the beginning of studio formation, the project team consisted of two people who did not hold communist views. For a long time, the members of the project team had been supporting various right-wing and conservative movements, such as the NOD, the Essence of Time. Then the creators of the popular Marxist content moved on to watching videos by Yegor Ivanov and Konstantin Syomin. Watching the videos of these vloggers made them change their political views. By 2017–2018, the members of the studio team had become convinced communists.[2]

Content characterization

The animation studio's first video was the documentary "Deadly Profitable". This video, released in 2016, was about alcohol sales.[3]

In 2020, the animation studio Think Yourself / Think Now released a video about Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin. This video debunked the liberal, monarchist and conservative myths about this Soviet leader. The video became very popular in the Russian-speaking YouTube because it gained more than 1 million views. The Turkish communists, who appreciated the video, released it in Turkish dubbing along with "Doomed to Wake Up", another popular video released by the studio.[4][5]

In 2022, the videos began to be released in English dubbing.[6]

Studio structure

The studio's permanent staff consists of six people, but the project is assisted by dozens of freelancers and volunteers. Most of the members of this project reside in Western Siberia and meet in a face-to-face format. A member of the studio team is Argentine-born Federico, currently living in Russia.[2]

Many of the animated videos are designed for the international audience, but some of the videos have reasoning that is understandable only to the residents of the post-Soviet space.[2]

The studio team uses Blender, iClone, Character Creator, and Adobe After Effects.[2]

Cooperation with other Marxist associations

The studio «Think Yourself / Think Now» is a partner of the Tyumen Marxist study group «Molot».[2]

The project "Think Yourself / Think Now" supports reprinting the Soviet textbooks of Stalin's era, because, according to the opinion of the project team, modern textbooks are full of inaccuracies and incorrect wordings in the assignments.[7] The project is a partner of the publishing house «Stalin's ABC book».[8]
