This Thing Of Ours is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed and published by Skull Crackers Entertainment. The game is scheduled to be released on Steam Early Access in February 2020. You play as Vincent "Vinny" Amato, a fictional mafioso in the early 2000's.
Development[edit]
This Thing Of Ours has been in development since Fall of 2017 and is being developed using the Unity game engine. The game was originally designed to be an open-ended game to where the player built up his/her own criminal empire with no true ending. But, this idea was scrapped and the game was then designed to be a story driven game. There were plans to build a living, breathing prison system into the game where if the player committed large scale crimes, he'd be sent to prison. This idea was also scrapped due to time constraints.
Story Development[edit]
The Film & Television inspirations for This Thing Of Ours' development were The Sopranos, The Godfather, Goodfellas, and Casino. Dovy Paulionis wanted to create a rich, realistic storyline the depicted how the mafia truely was without dumbing it down as well as mixing in humor.
Gameplay[edit]
This Thing Of Ours takes place in the third-person perspective. [1]The game features several different districts, including a country side area as well as detailed interiors such as a strip club, bars, clothing stores and more. Weather and day/night changes are also featured in the game.
The game features a police system style similar to that of the Mafia (series) where players will receive tickets for speeding, running stop lights, or driving on the wrong side of the road. Players will be arrested for more serious crimes such as evading the police, walking around with a visible firearm, assault, etc.
The game features only 14 vehicles in the early access preview. The vehicles are based on real-world vehicles from the early 2000's, but with different names and different designs due to copyright issues.
Criminal Activities[edit]
Extortions[edit]
Home Invasions[edit]
Frank "Shanks" Gicci, the muscle of the Beacon Hill Crew, will sometimes catch wind of a house that has some high-end fencible items inside of it. The player can use this information and break into that specific house at night time or they can chose to break into one of the other available houses to break into. Home invasions are only available at night time. You'll need some lockpicks to help break in which can be purchased at Old Man Bills weapon shop. Once you break the lock, Vinny will automatically equip himself with a ski-mask to help hide his identity. You'll have to sneak through the house and grab the available items without waking up the tenants. If you're too loud the alarm will go off, and you'll have to flee the scene before the police arrive.
Smash & Grabs[edit]
[2]Throughout New Temperance there are several stores that can be broken into in a hurry. To break into one of these, you'll need to break the glass out with either a melee weapon, or shooting them out. Once the glass is broken an alarm will sound and the police will be notified so you'll have to move quickly. If you break into a building too much during the week, they'll install bars on their windows to prevent the items from being stolen.
Liquor Store Robberies[edit]
If you're in need of a few extra bucks on of the easy ways to make money in the game is to rob a liquor store. To rob a store simply walk inside, aim your gun at the cashier and they'll quickly open the drawer and toss the money on the counter for you to collect. Once you collect the money and leave, the alarm will go off and police will be notified.
Hits[edit]
Story[edit]
The game places you in the role of Vincent "Vinny" Amato, a low level associate in the fictional Fionacci Crime Family. He's the head of a small time crew of friends he grew up with who've labeled themselves "The Beacon Hill Crew". Vinny's uncle, Santino "Sonny" Amato, is a mafioso in the Fionacci family and will hand out missions for Vinny to complete.
